The stars aligned perfectly at Margaret Chase Smith School last Tuesday evening as their coyotes joined us for our first literacy night. Families were able to seek their own adventure as they visited various classrooms with read alouds and activities. Chase made a special appearance along with Mrs. Dube from the Springvale Library. Students were able to head home with a special treat of trail mix donated by their PTA.

On Thursday, March 16th, the 7th grade Algebra and 8th grade Geometry classes at SMS were able to experience a program called Engineers Teaching Algebra. Mr. Love, an engineer, visited the classroom for a fun and engaging STEAM experience where students used pencils, paper, and calculators to solve traffic engineering challenges. They discovered how to use Algebra to solve a real-world problem. Students were asked to determine how long each phase of a light cycle should be in a given intersection. Every student rose to the challenge and there are definitely some future engineers at SMS!
