Pride's Student Support Room May Positive Share
One of the best things about working in the Student Support Room is to have a chance to meet so many of our Pride students. When I first started working in the SSR, student numbers were very low due to the small size room that was being used for operating the SSR. Today, it has become very common for 4 to 6 students to be in the room at the same time, and there have been days where 8 students were in the room together. Having multi-grade level students at the same time has also been a rewarding experience. Watching how our older and younger students interact around each other can be very enlightening, and I have had a chance to see the softer side of many of our older students who are very kind towards our younger students. Our Pride students ROCK!

What a morning for our 4th graders! Students from Carl J. Lamb Elementary, Sanford Pride Elementary, and Margaret Chase Smith Elementary kicked off their day with some exciting real-world learning , visiting Moody's Collision & Auto Body Repair and Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport!

From Music and Art:
Students are choosing artwork to display and polishing up music for their upcoming Celebration of Learning event, which includes the Art Show and music concerts! Here is a reminder of dates and performance times (doors open 45 minutes prior to your child’s performance times so that displays can be viewed):
Kindergarten: Monday, April 13th at 5:00
Grade 1: Monday, April 13th at 6:00
Grade 2: Tuesday, April 14th at 5:00
Grade 3: Tuesday, April 14th at 6:00
Grade 4 and Chorus: Thursday, April 16th at 5:00
On another note, Chorus students did a fantastic job performing at Sanford’s annual “Spring Sing” concert on March 4th! They performed the song “Do The Good You Know” combined with CJL and MCS Choruses, and then performed the song “Kusimama” with all Chorus students in grades 4-12. We had over 150 students combined and singing on the stage together. Great job, Chorus!!!

From the Library:
The school library has been a hub of excitement and learning over the past few weeks! We recently had the pleasure of hosting Frank Cole, author of The Legend of the Last Library, one of this year's Maine Student Book Award nominees. Frank met with our 4th graders to discuss his book and the writing process, sparking a lot of curiosity and inspiration.
Our 4th graders are also continuing to participate in the Maine Student Book Award challenge, eagerly reading through the nominated books. Meanwhile, students in all grades have enjoyed listening to the ten nominees for the Chickadee Award, and everyone will have the chance to vote for their favorite in the coming weeks.
In celebration of Black History Month, 2nd through 4th graders learned about influential figures such as motorcycle queen Bessie Stringfield, 1936 National Spelling Bee competitor MacNolia Cox, and painter Alma Thomas. These stories led to engaging conversations and new discoveries.
Kindergarten and first-grade students participated in author studies of Drew Daywalt and Ben Clanton. They loved getting to know the authors' books and are excited to check them out and read more.
Our youngest library users, the PreK students, have been learning the routines of checking out books. They are now choosing books to enjoy in their classrooms, beginning a journey of lifelong reading.
It’s wonderful to see every grade level embracing reading, learning, and discovery in our library!
From Health:
In Health, we have been learning about our immune systems and illness prevention. Now we are learning about food groups, balanced meals and how to read a nutrition label to make healthy eating choices. Also, SPE had our first annual Health Fair which was a huge success! Each grade level received a different series of guest presentations on health topics including personal safety, fire safety, dental care, mindfulness, nutrition, and illness prevention. Some students went sledding, some planted, some tasted new foods and there was a smoothie bike set up in the cafeteria during all lunches.
From P.E.:
Students just finished their floor hockey unit as well as a successful round of sledding. Our annual Elementary Teachers vs. First Responders game is coming up on Thursday, March 12th. We are starting our basketball unit in class, which will give students a better understanding of the game.

Sanford Community Wide Kindergarten Registration Night for our upcoming 2026-2027 school year will be held on March 4th from 3:30pm to 6:00pm at Sanford Pride Elementary School at 708 Main Street, Sanford. You may pre-register online or register in person with staff assistance at the event. All children 5 years of age on or before October 15th are eligible to register for Kindergarten. Bring proof of residency and child's birth certificate.
Our current Sanford Public Pre-K students will be auto-enrolled in Kindergarten but are invited to still attend our event to meet staff and community providers.

"Good news" from our 3rd/4th self-contained class. For Valentines Day, our group colored in and distributed their own Valentines Day cards, as well as joined the health fair for an amazing Friday before vacation. We recently finished our "Fantastic Folk Tales" segment where students created their own folk tales and shared them with the class. Our next project will be presentations on "How To" do various activities like How to Play Minecraft, How to Make a Taco, and other great student-led ideas.
