Grade 2 Puzzle Club ended this past week. Each week, students worked together before school to complete a puzzle before the school day started! We had a lot of fun!

Good News From our Student Support Room (Mr. T)
Our Student Support Room has had record numbers of students taking breaks in between their academic learning. This positive support has proved to help many students be successful throughout their school day. Studies show that taking breaks while at school is an effective way for students to retain their academic lessons and skills.
Another intervention used in the SSR is our Check In Check Out (CICO) support. This year we have over 20 students using CICO. These students are given a point sheet with established goals that they can work towards during their school day.
One of the most popular activities in the SSR is solving a logic puzzle. There are many wooden logic puzzles to choose from when taking a break. These puzzles require the students to be creative with problem solving and to apply patience and determination in order to solve.
Another popular choice for students is playing with Play Dough; this is an old favorite among both students and staff. Play Dough offers sensory stimulation, creativity, and a colorful imagination to come alive.
Students are encouraged to take time to color for their break and outside of school. Coloring and/or drawing are 2 ways to relax and spend time more quietly while engaged in a fun activity.
December is an exciting time at school, but it can also be a time of higher stress and anxiety for some students. Having a Student Support Room at Pride Elementary school has been a very positive support offered to all of our students.

The Resource Team is happy to share that they decided to create a "Thankful Tree", where students wrote what they were thankful for on paper leaves to decorate a tree that is hung up in our hallway. Since we have a small caseload of 7 students, we wanted our tree to feel full and representative of our school community. With that in mind, we collaborated with Mr. McCall and Mrs. Cyr, who invited their speech students and social work students to participate as well. Together, our students created over 50 leaves for the tree. The students truly enjoyed the activity and took great pride in their contributions.

Yesterday, our school community came together in many different ways to honor our veterans, and today we continue to celebrate and remember those who have served.

Carl J. Lamb Elementary hosted their 3rd Annual Veterans Day Celebration in the cafeteria, where each grade performed songs for the veterans in attendance.

Our talented Sanford Pride chorus students took their gift of music to Pinnacle Health and Rehab in Sanford, where they sang for veterans and brightened their day. These thoughtful students also created handmade cards and letters to show their appreciation and let our veterans know they are remembered and valued.

Margaret Chase Smith School welcomed veterans to their 4th Annual Breakfast with Veterans in the gymnasium.

Thank you to all the veterans who joined us yesterday and to all who have served!

In Health class, students are working on the idea that we can't always control what will happen, but we can choose how we respond. We can CHOOSE to be responsible, calm, honest, forgiving, generous, friendly, patient, gentle, helpful, confident, brave and a good sport! We are captains of our own ship!

On Friday, February 13th (day before February break), SPE will be having a Health Fair for students. Stay tuned!

In library, we have started reading this year's nominees for the Chickadee award. Mrs. Sullivan has also begun teaching lessons on Digital Citizenship, where students are learning to be safe, respectful, and responsible when they are online and using technology. Fourth graders are also participating in the Maine Student Book Award, where they are reading books on their own to vote for their favorite in March. Students who read three or more books will be able to participate in a library-themed escape room to celebrate their accomplishment.

On Monday, November 10th, fourth graders who are in Chorus will take a field trip to the Pinnacle nursing home in Sanford. Students will be visiting to sing for veterans.

Also a reminder to mark your calendars for this year's Art Show and Concerts! Grades K and 1 will be on 4/13, Grades 2 and 3 on 4/14, and Grade 4 on 4/16.
