Mrs. Deschambault's first grade authors at Margaret Chase Smith were able to return to their kindergarten teacher to read their reviews as part of their opinion writing celebration. The students were able to showcase their writing skills and model for some kindergarten students how to start with a hook, use transition words and use examples with each reason. They have more more writing unit as they finish the year!

Thank you so much to Author Gordon Korman for visiting Sanford Middle School today. Korman spent the day talking to students about his writing process, how he does he research for writing, how much work goes into publishing, and much more. He then hung around after to sign books for students and staff. “The kids were amazing, a really, really nice audience,” Korman said. “It was a really nice reception.”

Third grade students at Margaret Chase Smith have been working on their opinion/persuasive writing pieces. These coyotes have learned how to state their opinion, defend their opinion with examples and/or facts, and provide a closure to their writing. Coyotes were then able to share their writing pieces with families, other students, and even some teachers. The students did a great job sharing their writing and they also gave some feedback!
