Our 9th seed Girls Soccer team will travel to play the #8th seed Kennebunk Rams on Friday, October 25th for a 4:00 pm game at Kennebunk High School.The winner of this Class A South Prelim game will move on to the Quarterfinals which will be played on Tuesday 10/29. Our Cross-Country team will be traveling this Saturday, October 26th to compete in the Class A Southern Regional Championship. They will be running at the Twin Brook Recreational Facility in Cumberland. The boys will run at 12:20 and the girls will run 1:00 pm. The top 30 runners from the boys and girls will compete the following weekend once again at Twin Brook. Our 4th seed Field Hockey team will host 5th seed Thornton Academy on Tuesday, October 29th in a Regional Quarterfinal matchup. The game will be played at Alumni Stadium at 6:00 pm. Three years into its journey, the Walking School Bus Program at Sanford Pride Elementary continues to make strides in building a stronger community and improving attendance. What began as a creative and family-friendly way to ensure students arrive at school safely and on time has blossomed into an engaging morning routine for students, volunteers, and families. Carol Lantagne, the program's coordinator, is there at 7:30 a.m. every morning, always with at least one volunteer. Get ready for a night of fun, music, and friendly competition at the Sanford Backpack Program's "Lip Sync Showdown!" The event will take place on Saturday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Sanford Performing Arts Center. This event is presented by the Sanford Backpack Program, with all proceeds directly supporting the program’s mission to provide food for local students in need. Alumni Spotlight: Shaun Gagnon (Class of 2001) We're excited to feature Shaun Gagnon in our Alumni Spotlight! What’s your current occupation? CEO - Cambridge Insurance Advisors How did your experiences at Sanford help you to reach your educational/professional goals? Sanford is a proud community. Having access to a variety of role models and family / friends helped in networking. In Sanford and surrounding areas you have both large employers and a slew of small businesses / professional trades. Just talking to people about different career paths helped me shape my career path. Being part of many Sanford sports teams helped build character, teamwork and lifelong friendships. What was the most valuable lesson that you learned while a student at Sanford? The ability to communicate. I was fortunate to have a number of great teachers. Going to them for extra help or guidance, or encouragement on a project - was a valuable lesson I apply in work today. Lesson - communicate, ask for help, take lead but (success in business has a lot to do with how you communicate. What is your fondest memory during your time at Sanford? Earning a state championship in football (1998 or first playoff hockey win for Sanford Hockey over Westbrook). Taking part in Friday night football games was also a highlight and very fond memory. Is there anyone in particular who had a major impact during your time at Sanford? Dick Faulkner / Steve Walker. Both great coaches and mentors. My parents are also lifelong Sanford residents and have had a profound impact on me. They sacrificed a lot to allow me to play on many teams, and were there at all school events and sporting events. North Parish church was also a great community in general after church Sunday coffees were always a great way to connect with many people. What advice do you have for current Sanford students? Sanford is a great place to learn, take advantage of the community. Get involved in things you are passionate or curious about (clubs, teams, community events). Sanford students dot the map… it seems there is always someone connected to Sanford High whether I’m in NYC, traveling for business or local to Maine. The alumni do a good job supporting each other. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone who came before you. Spectators are encouraged to park at the high school no later than 3:30 p.m. to line the parade route along Alumni Boulevard. After 3:30 p.m., Alumni Boulevard will be closed off until the end of the parade. People who arrive after 3:30 p.m. should park off campus and walk to the parade route. The Route 4 entrance will be closed to the public and all traffic will enter from the Main St. entrance. The parade will go down the course and back, so onlookers can see both sides of the floats. Alumni Boulevard will be back open to the public for traffic for the football game which will be at 7:00 p.m.

Students in the life skills program at Sanford Middle School are making a difference, collecting aluminum can tabs to support the Ronald McDonald House. The initiative, which began in their classroom, has quickly grown to include the entire school. The project aims to collect as many aluminum can tabs as possible. These tabs, when recycled, generate funds that help cover the costs of children’s cancer treatments at the Ronald McDonald House. According to Special Education teacher Sara DiStefano, one gallon of can tabs filled equals about an hour of a child’s cancer treatment. What started as a class project has expanded throughout the school. Students have taken ownership of the initiative by creating eye-catching posters to place around the school and distributing containers for collecting tabs in the halls.
