Dear Families and Community,

The Sanford School Department is aware of the news reports about immigration enforcement activity in Maine.  We understand that this news may evoke a range of feelings throughout our community. This is a topic that affects people in different ways and there may be concerns about the impacts on our schools and the families we serve.

The Sanford School Department has protocols and internal procedures regarding any visitors to our buildings and our relationship with law enforcement.  Student privacy is protected, and access is only provided when legally required and proper documentation has been presented.

Your rights as parents are important to us, and we understand you may need to make decisions for your own children. Our schools are here to support you, and your child is always welcome.

Please reach out to your building Principal or Central Office if you have questions or concerns.  We are committed to the safety of all of our students and minimizing school disruption to provide a learning environment where they can feel safe and welcome.

Sincerely,

Matt Nelson

Superintendent of Schools.
