Good evening. This is a message from the Sanford School Department. Sorry to interrupt the game but we were notified this evening by a Maine CDC case investigator that an individual at Sanford High School tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the circumstances, we have notified all close contacts via a voice message call. If you were a school close contact, you received a voice call with CDC recommendations minutes ago. I am sharing this information with all stakeholders out of an abundance of caution. Please stay safe and enjoy the rest of the game.

Good evening. As the SSD returns to hybrid in-person learning this week, our safety protocols continue to be our main line of defense in keeping transmission of COVID-19 down in our schools. DHHS & Maine CDC continue to see evidence indicating lower transmission of COVID-19 in schools compared to the general population. Over the last 30 days, the rate of new cases is 27 per 10,000 staff and students, compared to 113 per 10,000 people statewide. This rate of new cases in schools is 24% of the statewide rate for the general population. Please continue to follow our safety protocols: physical distancing, hand hygiene, symptom screening, staying home when sick, and face coverings / mask wearing; it’s working!

Good Afternoon – The Sanford School Department is aware of the Maine Principals Association’s recent decision to allow counties with a “yellow” designation to participate in school-based activities. We are currently collecting information and evaluating options before making any decisions; an announcement will be forthcoming. If Sanford schools elect to participate, no activities will occur until Sanford schools return to hybrid in-person learning, currently scheduled for Monday, January 25, 2021.
