The Sanford School Department caught up with teacher Kristi Peters, who is in her fourth year working at Sanford Middle School. Peters has a joy of working with her students. "It's always funny because everyone asks, especially non-teachers, 'Are you so excited for the summer?' And I say, 'No, I'm not because I love these students.'" "I just feel so lucky to have them," she said. "They are fun. They are the best-natured kids." Peters pointed to the support of the administrators and principals that have made working at Sanford Middle School so rewarding. "They make it so much fun to teach here," she said. "They are so supportive. Honestly, that's appreciation all year. It's wonderful to work here. It means so much, but I don't think any of us ever expect it. But it's so, so nice to be a part of this." When asked about three things she'd bring on a deserted island, she said: "I would definitely bring something to read, maybe a never-ending book, a lifetime supply of pizza, and then I would also want tools so I can trap an animal to be my friend."

The Sanford School Department caught up with SMS Special Education teacher Jessica Allen. She was also the IEP coordinator for six years before returning to the classroom this year. "I'm really happy to be back in the classroom," Allen said. "I missed the connection with students, working with them directly ... I definitely feel appreciated here in the school." "I think we have a lot of community support," Allen said. "We have a great group of kids … seeing that resiliency and coming back to school and facing those challenges is great." She has some students reading a book together that everyone is really into and excited about. "For them to be able to get excited when they are understanding something or when they are happy about what they are learning … it's that much better. When asked about three things she would bring on a deserted island, she said: "A book, a bunch of snacks, and a friend."
