Attention SMS Parents, this is a reminder that open house will be tomorrow (8/28) @ Sanford Middle School from 5-7pm (grades 5/6 from 5-6pm and grades 7/8 from 6-7pm). There will be a short informational athletic meeting following open house from 7-7:15pm in the cafeteria with Mr. Allen. Attendance is encouraged for students playing fall sports at SMS this year.

Arrival times (by child's last name): A-G: 9am H-M: 10am N-Z: 11am (The only exception to this is if there are children in one family with multiple last names. You will then refer to the last name of your youngest, school aged child, to determine your arrival time. If you arrive with no children you will need to come at 11am)
Bring: Index card per child with your name, child's name, and grade. No pre-registration needed. First come, first served. Come only at your designated time. Event is WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

This is a reminder that SMS and SHS are holding a sports physical clinic on Monday, August 5th from 3pm to 5pm in the School Nurse's Office (D105) at Sanford High School. Enter SHS at the Community Retail Center entrance near the greenhouse.

The Sanford Summer Meals for Kids & Teens program returns on Monday, June 17th, providing free breakfast and lunch for youth 18 and under at multiple locations across the city.
No registration is required for this USDA-funded program that aims to ensure children have access to nutritious meals when school is out for summer break. Families can simply stop by any of the participating sites during the meal service times.
This summer's participating locations and meal times are:

The Summer Meals for Kids & Teens program helps families stretch their food budgets while providing a free, convenient source of healthy meals for children during the summer months. All meals meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
Congratulations to Sanford Middle Schooler Joshua Fogarty, who was recently named this year's recipient of the 8th Grade Secretary of State Citizenship award! Joshua was recognized for his outstanding Citizenship and Leadership.

This morning, the Class of 2024 received their caps and gowns and then took a trip down memory lane as they walked through the middle and elementary schools to bid farewell! Students and staff from each school filled the halls to give congratulations.

Earlier this month, 8th-grade JMG students were challenged to conduct one-on-one interviews with someone in the career field they were hoping to learn more about. Gianna Garneau and Mattea Peters had the incredible opportunity to interview Capt. Brooks from the York County Sheriff's Office, gaining valuable insights into what it takes to become a criminal investigator or detective.
A huge thank you to Capt. Brooks for taking the time to visit Sanford Middle School and inspire our students with his expertise and passion for public service.
Ysebella Mitchell and Luke Gendron have been named the 2024 Grade 8 Elks Award recipients at Sanford Middle School.
The annual award recognizes outstanding 8th grade students' academic excellence, leadership, positive attitude, and service to the school community.
Congratulations to Ysebella and Luke!

Attention incoming 5th grade families! There is a Rising 5th Grade Parent Information Night at Sanford Middle School this Thursday, May 23rd, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
There will be a presentation in the school cafe, followed by an open house visit.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about preparing your child for 5th grade.

Two dozen student leaders from Sanford Middle School attended the 6th annual Middle School Student Leadership Summit at UNE earlier this week. They discussed important issues, developed leadership skills, and felt empowered to create positive change.
Advisers Angela Avery and Jenn Brown chaperoned.
The summit included motivational sessions and goal-setting activities. Students joined peers from schools across southern Maine, exploring the UNE campus and dining hall.

Adeline Fraser, Joshua Fogarty, and Allison Horton from Sanford Middle School were recognized for winning 1st place at the state level for their drug awareness video, "Be Kind to Your Mind." On Saturday, May 4th, they attended the state Elks Banquet in Augusta to receive their awards and have the video shown. Congratulations, Addie, Josh, and Allison!
