A reminder that the Sanford Middle School Art Show will take place from 5-7pm tomorrow and Friday at the school! We hope you can come out and join us!

On March 23rd, SMS students in the JMG program interested in art-related career fields, traveled to the Maine College of Art & Design in Portland to experience the 11 art majors the school offers! Before their tour, students stopped off at Color Me Mine at Thompson's Point to hear about Jennifer's (owner) and Quinn's (assistant manager) experiences, and backgrounds in art while painting their own ceramics! Students asked excellent questions and represented SMS amazingly!

The Sanford's Got Talent 2023 show was a roaring success on Friday, March 10th.
The students' work in the JMG program before the show had much to do with that success. JMG (Jobs for Maine Graduates) partners with Maine's public middle and high schools, community colleges, and university system to help students reach their fullest potential. On Thursday, March 16th, the 7th grade Algebra and 8th grade Geometry classes at SMS were able to experience a program called Engineers Teaching Algebra. Mr. Love, an engineer, visited the classroom for a fun and engaging STEAM experience where students used pencils, paper, and calculators to solve traffic engineering challenges. They discovered how to use Algebra to solve a real-world problem. Students were asked to determine how long each phase of a light cycle should be in a given intersection. Every student rose to the challenge and there are definitely some future engineers at SMS!
