Margaret Chase Smith had some courageous coyotes get up on stage Thursday night to perform songs that they have been working on with Ms. Hastings in music. The kindergarten and 1st grade pups did a great job sharing their hard work with families in the Wilkins Gym. Families were also able to check out our Art Show that was put on by Mrs. LG. Art work filled our hallways for families to see what their pup has been working on in art. The 2nd and 3rd grade are tonight at the school starting at 4:15 p.m.!

Sheila Dube from the Springvale Public library came to talk to Margaret Chase Smith K-3rd grade classrooms about the Summer Reading Program called All Together Now. Ms. Sheila brought her friend, Rocky the Raccoon, and spoke to students about the different happenings during the summer at the library in the children's room. During the summer, students have the ability to make kindness cards that get dispersed to different children's hospitals, nursing homes, and other organizations to spread kindness.

Hello MCS Families! I wanted to notify all families that the third and fourth grade teams participated in an extended fire drill this morning. A few times a year students will practice evacuating to our rally points as part of safety procedures. The students did an amazing job and were excellent role models as they listened for directions, walked silently and gathered in the appropriate locations. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Today was a great day to be a third and fourth grade coyote!

3rd grade classrooms at Margaret Chase Smith just finished up their reading unit on Because of Winn Dixie. During this unit, students analyzed varying characters and their traits in the book, and it allowed them to make predictions based on what they knew about the characters. To celebrate the work in this unit, our third grade coyotes got to have a Because of Winn Dixie party where they were able to showcase dogs in their own lives, generate a mistake tree, and enjoy some peanut butter and egg salad sandwiches, pickles, litmus lozenges, and some "dump punch," just like the party in the book!
