On Tuesday, Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School buzzed with excitement as it kicked off its participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, a federally assisted initiative, provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to children at eligible elementary schools. This U.S. The Department of Agriculture program aims to improve children's overall diet and create healthier eating habits that impact their present and future well-being. Thanks to this new partnership, all 380 students at MCS are now invited to enjoy a daily fresh fruit or vegetable snack provided in their classrooms by the nutrition team throughout the entire school year. Our kindergarten classes have started their KforMe units around families. They are learning about various cultures and how families vary with size and relatives. In centers, they learned about mixing paint colors, building homes and setting up a table for a family to eat a meal.

Check out Ms. Combs' third and fourth grade students as they whipped up some delicious waffles as their final cooking class of the year. Each month the students would learn a new recipe using various seasonal resources. Students earned the class project for their hard work during class and their nightly reading logs.

Our final assembly of the year was a success as we honored students for great or perfect attendance, PACER results and participation in music and art clubs in grades 2-4. The PTA surprised Mrs. Arnold with a remembrance tree as she heads off for retirement. Some lucky students also had the opportunity to pie in the face or silly string a staff member. Every day is a great day to be a coyote!
