Mrs. Hally's Title literacy students at Margaret Chase Smith had a reading challenge this March for a chance to earn lunch with Mrs. Hallissey and Ms. McGuckin, and they absolutely crushed it.

First and second graders set out to read 100 books this month. First grade finished with 121 books and second grade came in at 124. Way to go, readers!

Third and fourth graders had a different challenge: read for 20 minutes a day, 50 times total throughout March. Third grade hit 64 sessions and fourth grade came in at 62. Both grades blew past their goals!

To celebrate, students got to enjoy lunch together and play games while sharing their favorite books.

Marvin came back Friday afternoon to remind us to use perseverance when times get tough! He challenged us to use teamwork when we need a boost and to reach out for help. Thank you to his friends Susie and Penny who helped us remember that we can wait and push through when times are tough.

Margaret Chase Smith students in Ms. Combs' class recently got to celebrate all their hard work with a Cozy Cafe Day! Over the past 6 weeks, students worked toward reading a minimum of 400 minutes at home, and so many of them read even more than that!

As a reward, students got to come in wearing their comfy pajamas and spend the day at the "Cafe." They earned their cafe money by reading independently, reading with a friend, and making crafts throughout the day. 🎨📖
Such a fun way to recognize how much these kids have put into their reading this year. Way to go!

Last Friday, our students had a special visit from Boomer of the Sanford Mainers for the exciting Boomer’s Bookworm Spring Reading Challenge! Boomer brought great energy as he encouraged all of our Coyotes to build strong reading habits by reading 15–20 minutes each night.
Students who complete their reading passport will earn two tickets to a Mainers game in July, what a fun way to celebrate reading! Even better, students can return their completed passport for a second chance to earn two additional tickets for their family or to attend a second game.
All reading passports must be returned by March 30th. Students who meet the challenge will receive their tickets at an upcoming school assembly. We can’t wait to celebrate our readers and cheer them on both in the classroom and at the ballpark!
