Ancient Greece came alive in 2nd grade classrooms at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary last week! Students dressed in togas and dove deep into Greek culture through food, stories, and imagination. The highlight? Watching these budding writers share their own original Greek myths with their peers.

We are excited to share information with you regarding the Sanford Public School Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) programs for the 2025-2026 school year. In September, we expect to continue offering full-day pre-k programming at Carl J. Lamb School, Margaret Chase Smith School, Sanford Pride Elementary School, Sanford-Springvale YMCA and Sanford Regional Technical Center.
Sanford and Springvale families with children 4 years old on or before October 15, 2025 and not of kindergarten age are eligible. Children who are 5 years old by October 15th, 2025 and not enrolled in Sanford’s pre-k program can enroll in kindergarten by calling one of our elementary schools.
The pre-k program is free and will include free breakfast, lunch and transportation. We anticipate 112 Pre-K slots will be available for the 2025-2026 school year. To provide equal opportunity for families to enroll their children, students will be chosen using a lottery system.
Here is the link to the form that you will need to complete in order to be considered for admittance to our Pre-K program: https://rb.gy/hfjwl7. The lottery registration will close at the end of the day on Friday, March 15, 2025.
If you have any questions about how to fill out the form, please contact our central office at 324-2810. Our goal is to make program notifications the week of April 1st. All students that are placed in a district Pre-K program will need to complete registration prior to Pre-K screening. Once all openings have been filled by lottery, the remaining names will be drawn to create a waiting list, should space become available.
If you know of any families who may have an eligible student, please feel free to share this information. If you have any questions, please contact us at the Sanford School Department’s Central Office at 324-2810.

Double the excitement at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary last week! Pre-K and Kindergarten students wowed their families with back-to-back showcases.
Kindergarteners became wildlife experts, guiding visitors through interactive stations about fish, frogs, owls, and wolves. From building salmon habitats to acting out stories, these young scientists showed off their knowledge of animal adaptations and life cycles.
Meanwhile, Pre-K students sparkled at their Literacy Showcase, mastering letter formation with creative tools like mini erasers and tackling winter-themed word activities.
Thank you to all the families who joined us!

Hula Hut Club hit the floor again this afternoon with Mrs.Morrison and Mrs.Hallissey. Students are practicing being a collaborative team as builders, blockers and throwers.

We start each day with a Morning Meeting to build a strong sense of community and connection among our students. By incorporating Regulated Classroom activities, we create a supportive environment that fosters collaboration, emotional well-being, and readiness for learning. Check out Mrs. Collop's class using their eyes and ears to complete a game of concentration.

Hello MCS Families! Check out our weekly newsletter with updates from around the building. We have our PTA Valentine's Day Dance on Friday evening and several clubs continuing after school. Congratulations to Mrs. Perkins' class who earned 30 cubes during specials and had some fun playing Capture the Flag with Mrs. Hallissey!

Mrs. Bennett's students shared their writing with Mrs. Hallissey today as they completed their character sketch unit. They started a few weeks ago with their character webs and then expanded each day with new writing techniques!

Our fourth grade coyotes are being introduced on how to use pillow poles in their gym classes with Ms. Tibbetts. This is an introduction to the hockey unit.

Margaret Chase Smith kindergarteners in Mrs. St. Laurent's class have been busy learning! Their youngest coyotes are building strong math foundations through hands-on activities. It's wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practice number identification in fun and engaging ways!
