The 2024 Mitchell Scholarship online application is now open until April 1st. The Mitchell Institute has committed to awarding at least one $10,000 scholarship annually to a graduating student from each of Maine's 134 public high schools. The Mitchell Institute is awarding 20 additional scholarships across the state this year (on top of the additional 20 in 2023). The Sanford Middle School 8th grade staff cooked and served a spaghetti luncheon with tablecloths and holiday music before winter break. This took place in Memorial Gym for the entire 8th grade as a random act of kindness to show their appreciation for the student's hard work.

The Maine Department of Education is now accepting nominations for Teacher of the Tear. Nominations can be made through a form on the Maine Teacher of the Year Website from now until 5:00 p.m. on January 31st, 2024. They are accepted by students, parents, caregivers, community members, school administrators, colleagues, college faculty members, and associations/organizations. On the final day of each school week, these students will sit at a special table decorated with a tablecloth, flowers, real plates, silverware, and glasses. The students will learn about setting a table and enjoy a “fancy” lunch.

An Athletic Hall of Honor is coming to Sanford High School. Much like a Hall of Fame, Sanford’s Hall of Honor will induct former high school athletes, coaches, contributors, and teams who made a significant impact during their time. It also plans to reconnect those individuals and families with the Sanford School Department and enhance the current student-athlete understanding and pride in the history of SHS athletics.
