Alumni Spotlight: Ayn Hanselmann (Class of 1993) What is your current occupation? Certified Public Accountant How did your experiences at Sanford help you to reach your educational and/or professional goals? My time at SHS had me well prepared for the rigors of college and gave me many tools for success. I had some of the teachers who were considered the "hardest" at SHS but I learned the most from them and am grateful to have been in their classrooms! Along with other students from my graduating class, I was offered a full Presidential Scholarship to UMaine Orono that truly made college possible for me and set the path to where I am today. What was the most valuable lesson that you learned while a student at Sanford? It was as a student that I learned that being involved in the (school) community was really fun and also impactful. Connecting with different people through various different clubs (Math Club was my favorite of course!) and activities was really what made school fun for me. What is your fondest memory during your time at Sanford? We had so much school spirit! Homecoming week was always fun with our floats and parade down Main Street, cheering at games until we didn't have voices left! It was a time and place where students and the community all came together. Is there anyone in particular who had a major impact on you during your time at Sanford? Please share who and how he/she made a difference in your life. Ms. Anne Demers set the course for my career. The moment we cracked our accounting books open I was sold. I never looked back or changed course and love being an accountant still today. What advice do you have for current Sanford students? This is a tough one! I'd say to take it all in and don't miss out on opportunities to make school fun. Get involved (whatever that looks like for you), be engaged in the school community, find a path that works for you, work hard but also be sure not to miss the fun stuff. Consider your time at Sanford Schools your launch pad -- what you put into it will just launch you further toward your future! Fill out our form to be considered for our Alumni Spotlight feature. Selected spotlights will be featured on our social media channels and district newsletter. Here is the link to the form: https://www.sanford.org/forms/8224
