Sanford Regional Technical Center held its annual Career and College Fair on Thursday, November 9th. The fair provided an opportunity for students to engage with representatives and receive valuable insight, whether they are interested in college or are considering entering the workforce directly after high school. Over 110 companies, colleges, and military branch representatives came out for the fair. Nearly 1,000 SHS and SRTC students attended the event, which was broken into a.m. and p.m sessions. SRTC’s resident career planning coordinator, Jenn Bartlett, coordinated the fair. Career Explorations Coordinator Katie Schindler assisted in sharing the fair prep curriculum with students, ensuring that they were well-informed and prepared to make the most of the event. Veteran’s Day is Saturday November 11th. There will be parades and gatherings for these heroes. This one day a year is set aside for honoring Veterans and giving thanks that they are willing to make sacrifices to keep our nation strong and safe. Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military — in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served — not only those who died — have sacrificed and done their duty. In Sanford High School and Sanford Regional Technical Center we have 8 Veterans. Kiwanis in Sanford made a donation to the SRTC Building Trades Program, recognizing the program's dedication to revitalizing Cobb Stadium. Kiwanis took the initiative to organize an effort aimed at revitalizing Cobb Stadium. They scheduled four days of work to be carried out by their members and students in the Building Trades Program. The specific task was to strip and reside the existing storage garage situated in the lower back corner of Cobb. Kiwanis members and students stripped off the old wood clapboard siding and replaced it with new white vinyl siding, giving the structure a refreshed and modern appearance. They also installed aluminum wrap trim, ensuring durability and protection for years to come. To express their support for the SRTC Building Trades Program's contribution to the revitalization of Cobb Stadium, Kiwanis donated $1,500 to the program. This contribution will enhance the program's resources and enable them to continue providing valuable hands-on experiences to future students.

The Building Trades Program at Sanford Regional Technical Center recently received a donation from Deering Lumber. Deering Lumber holds an annual golf tournament and has donated some of the proceeds to the program. Instructor Troy Hathaway says the funds can be used to do more individualized projects with students. He plans to have students build mock-up buildings to learn how to frame floors, walls, roofs, ceilings, and interior partitions. They will also learn how to install doors, windows, exterior and interior trim, drywall, and many other aspects of residential construction. Thank you, Deering Lumber for the generous donation!

In honor of School Custodian Day, the Sanford School Department would like to recognize our custodial and maintenance staff's hard work over the summer to make our educational environment clean, safe, and inviting to everyone. The summer is actually the busiest time of the year for the custodial and maintenance crew because they have ten weeks to turn the buildings around and be ready for students and staff in the fall. They deep cleaned every area of our buildings, including washing and removing all the furniture from every room. They then cleaned the rooms from the top down, including lights, windows, and walls, and ended with refinishing the floors or washing the carpets. They also did minor facility repairs, light bulb replacements, and paint touch-ups. During the summer, they also have to attend to daily custodial needs with programs such as Extended School Year, Summer Food Service, and Summer Camps going on. They also created a new welcoming vestibule at Carl J. Lamb School with upgraded LED lights, a new ceiling, and an updated reception counter. Additionally, they painted and gave the entire lobby at the school a facelift. The maintenance team also spent a lot of time keeping the lawns at our schools at bay from the rainy summer. We shine the spotlight on our custodial and maintenance teams, who worked diligently behind the scenes to create an optimal learning environment for our students and staff. Their hard work and attention to detail make them vital to our school community.
