As I was walking through the 1st grade wing I had the opportunity to watch Mrs. Brown Abell's 1st graders learn how to use Edgenuity. Edgenuity is a program that integrates and uses our students' NWEA tests results to find activities that will support and boost his/her learning.

Last Friday students arriving to school were greeted with lively music and assistant principal Mrs. Hallissey, dancing to the music. Students were eager to join in and briefly dance with Mrs. Hallissey before they headed into the school. This impromptu dance party made for a fun start to the day and had students energized.

First grade students had a blast this week with their Mystery Science lesson. Each student had the opportunity to experiment with a star maker to learn about what happens to stars in the daytime.

As the first 3rd grade writing unit, personal narratives, draws to a close, students got a chance to (distantly) share with each other the pieces they are the most proud of. They were able to provide feedback to each other on meeting the goals we had as writers. Next week, they will get a chance to edit and publish their work! I am so glad we can still find ways to work collaboratively while adhering to our safety protocols.
Mrs. Goad- Third Grade

Just enjoying some beautiful fall weather!

Today in first grade students learned all about the process of voting. First graders learned that you can vote on lots of different things,
favorite food, color, favorite dinner or even your favorite book character. Today first grade students “registered” to vote, filled out their own ballot and cast their vote for their favorite book character (the Pigeon or Pete the Cat). Once they submitted their vote, they received an “I voted” stocker (check your messages for a photo). After the votes were tallied Mr. Potter and Mrs. Hallissey made the announcement to the first grade team. Ask your child who won the election at MCS!

This week Mrs. Parnham's 3rd grade math students began using the math workshop model. Students will practice new skills through various games and hands on activities using manipulatives (easily sanitized and virtual). Below are some students practicing multiplication strategies

Mrs. Sturtevant's 1st graders were building sight words today for reading and writing using magnetic letters!

Hello Families! Be on the lookout for Progress Reports to be sent home on Monday as well as times to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences in November.

Just a reminder that flu shots will take place Monday and Tuesday morning!

Just a reminder that Picture Retake Day is tomorrow for our Group A students and on Friday for our Group B students. Studio by the Pond will be arriving around noon time each day.

Today in Mrs. Morrison's class, her math students worked hard practicing their 1:1 counting and using the drawing tool to cross out items as they count them. This strategy is great when counting lots of items to ensure you do not miss one. Students also generated a list of different ways they can count math manipulatives (counters, pattern blocks, erasers, etc.).

I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend and a memorable Indigenous People Day. This is just a quick reminder that Group B students are in school tomorrow. Please remember to charge your device and pack it to be brought to school.

Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday. We look forward to seeing all of our B students on Tuesday and our A students on Thursday.

Hello MCS families! Studio by the Pond will be taking photos for those students who were not present for our original picture day back in September. The photographers will be at MCS on Thursday, October 15th for group A students and Friday, October 16th for group B students starting at 12pm. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you would like an order form be sent home, or click on the attached link for details and pricing.

Good morning,
MCS will be having our annual flu shot clinic on Oct. 26th and 27th this year starting at 8AM on both mornings to accommodate both Group A/B students. Please know it is not too late to sign your children up for flu shots if they have not done so, already.
