In preparation for Monday’s return of all students, we have had to make some adjustments to our end of the day student pick-ups by parents. We anticipate a high volume of cars now that we are all back, and we need to keep Twombley Road clear.
Kindergarteners through third graders parents will pick up their child(ren) the same that we have used all year, which is to use the fire road to go around the school.
Fourth graders and their siblings will be picked up near our cafeteria and gym. You will enter the school drive and start down the right side as you have before. After the first playground, you will see an inlet and a staff member stationed, turn in and have your placard visible. The teacher on duty will radio inside and have your child(ren) come out. Once everyone is seat belted, please loop around the drive and exit to the right. Then proceed through the small driveway loop to access Twombley Road.
Since, fourth graders will be coming back out against the flow of our pick-up line, it will be important that you stay to the right and leave enough room for the exiting traffic. I will be outside directing traffic and will try to head off any confusions.
Mrs. Hallissey has sent a video through Bloomz to our parents of fourth grade pick-ups showing how this will look.
As we experiment with this new procedure we may need to make some adjustments to it. As in the past, please contact the school if your child will be picked-up by someone different. We will appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to seeing your child here.
Respectfully,
Chuck Potter Principal of MCS
The fourth grade team shared their Social Studies research slides the past 2 days in the gymnasium. Feel free to test out your knowledge of the West, Midwest, Southeast and Southwest! All of the work was completed during their remote days utilizing Google Slides.

The students in Mrs. Arnold's class celebrated the conclusion of Read Across America Week with flashlight reading in their favorite texts.

We love you too 4th graders!

As I was walking through Mrs.Morrison's first grade class I watched as her students were going through a SNAP word activity. SNAP words are high frequency words that students should be able to recognize quickly. Mrs. Morrison's students were following along reading sentences and highlighting the SNAP words in each line. Her students were doing a great job.

Mrs. Morrison shared that today her first grade class and the other first grade classes continued on with their mission and learned that the long e sound can also be found in the vowel teams, ee and ea. Rasheed, the class lion, sent them on a hunt in their books to see what other words they could find.
Happy 100th Day of school! Check out what some of Mrs. Arnold's students will be doing in the future!

Great advice from our kindergarten friends! Read Across America Week has begun!

Congratulations to some of our February Mighty Cool Student Nominees! This month many of these students targeted our monthly theme of courage. Way to go!

The students in Ms. Brown's and Mrs. Paradis' 4th grade classrooms have been busy cracking the code as they try to ESCAPE from the American Revolution.

Thank you to our amazing PTA for supplying every 4th grade student with a Spartan t-shirt! The students have been learning all about various careers they can explore later in their education. Mrs. Spring McDermott was able to visit each class to provide some lessons as well as videos from high school students.

MCS School is closed today, Friday, February 12th, due to a heating issue. Enjoy your school vacation next week!
This afternoon our students and staff participated in a Heart Healthy Bingo. Organized by Ms. Tibbetts, Mr. Wilkins, and Mrs. Hallissey bingo cards were created with heart healthy activities such as a certain stretch or a certain exercise. As Mrs. Hallissey called out the activity via zoom, the students in all the classes would perform the activity. If the activity was on his/her bingo card it would be marked off. Once a child had "Bingo" he/she would come down to the gym for verification and if verified a prize could be chosen. This was a great school-wide event and will occur again tomorrow. Attached are just a sampling of the activities demonstrated by Ms. Tibbetts and Mr. Wilkins.

Mrs. Morrison shared that her first grade students are Word Detectives who have been hard at work using all they know. Check out their badges as they look for snap words in their reading and writing. First graders also used ALL they know about the Silent E to go on a word hunt in their books. Students also got to search around the classroom with their silent E letter and read CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words and then add a silent E making it a NEW word. They were great detectives and found lots of words that have a silent E at the end.
What do you do if it is snowing out and it is recess time? You build a snowman. Some students from Mrs. Goad's and Mrs. Grant's class did just that, built a snowman today.

Our 4th grade class's Unit of Study in reading had students researching a weather topic with a partner. Last week, the 4th grade students from Mrs. Carter's and Mrs. Holland's classes had the chance to share all that they have learned with their peers!

The students in first grade are busy writing reviews for their favorite reading book! We have some budding critics on our hands.
