Good evening, Tonight's PTA Meeting begins at 6pm in the CJL Library. Tomorrow we have our first night of Parent Teacher Conferences. We still have availability in the Student Support Room for free childcare during your conference, if needed. Our music and art teachers will be available with an assist from several SRTC Early Childhood Education students. We look forward to seeing you at the PTA Meeting tonight, at conferences tomorrow, or at our last night of conferences on November 20th. Thank you!

🇺🇸 Celebrating Our Veterans Across Sanford Schools! What an incredible display of gratitude and patriotism as our schools honored local veterans this Veterans Day season! Here's how our students showed their appreciation: At Margaret Chase Smith Elementary: Students and staff hosted their annual Veterans Day breakfast celebration Multiple grade levels performed special presentations First graders recited heartfelt poetry The "Our MCS Heroes" wall displayed family military photos Fourth-grade Den Ambassadors led the ceremony At Sanford Pride Elementary: The fourth-grade chorus brought music and joy to veterans at Pinnacle Health and Rehab Students performed "Thank You To Our Veterans" and "On Veteran's Day" Young voices filled the facility with gratitude and smiles At Carl J. Lamb Elementary: The Spartan Show Choir delivered a moving musical tribute Students participated in an educational flag-folding ceremony The school community came together for a special recognition ceremony Thank you to all veterans who joined us and to all who have served. Employee spotlight! Meet Carl J. Lamb Food Service Manager Debra Mello. How long have you been working in the Sanford School Department? 17 Years What's your favorite part about working in Sanford? My first impression of Sanford 24 years ago was that it is very family friendly. That is still the case. I love working with the kids. What's your favorite TV show or movie? Mostly watch a lot of football! If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be? I asked friends and co-workers for help with this and the three that came up the most are funny, kind and talkative (but in a good way). If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be? Get ready for a night of fun, music, and friendly competition at the Sanford Backpack Program's "Lip Sync Showdown!" The event will take place on Saturday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Sanford Performing Arts Center. This event is presented by the Sanford Backpack Program, with all proceeds directly supporting the program’s mission to provide food for local students in need. Some of the area’s most recognizable faces will hit the stage to battle it out for lip-sync supremacy, as voted by the audience in attendance. Performers include the Sanford School Committee, The Sanford City Council, SHS Staff, SRTC Staff, SMS PTA, Kiwanis and Rotary Club, SHS Field Hockey and Football Teams, the Sanford Police Department and more! After each round, the power is in the audience's hands to vote for the winning team, making this a night of friendly competition you won't want to miss. All proceeds from the event will support the Sanford Backpack Program in their mission to ensure that children in our community go home with a backpack full of nutritious, easy-to-prepare food every weekend. We are excited to be hosting our second annual Family Folk Dance Night tonight, on Tuesday, October 15th. Due to an overwhelming positive turnout last year, we have made the decision to split the event into two sessions: PK-1st and families at 5pm, 2nd-4th and families at 6:30pm. If your family has children in both age groups, you may choose which session to come to. The earlier session will be primarily dances learned in PK-1st and the later in 2nd-4th.

Good morning, This is the last day for students to return the flu shot form at CJL. The CJL flu shot clinic will take place one week from today during the school day. There is no school on Friday (TWD) or Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day. Tuesday, you’re invited to our Family Folk Dance Event (no prior experience required; the students and their music teacher will teach you everything you need to know. Pre-K-Gr1 5:00 / Gr2-4 6:30. Have kids in both age groups? Choose either time for the whole family. Easier dances are in the earliest session.

Today on Custodial Appreciation Day, we celebrate our amazing Sanford School Department custodial, maintenance, and grounds team! 🎉 Their summer accomplishments include: Deep cleaning all schools Installing new doors at Sanford Middle School Adding climate control to Sanford Pride Elementary’s Library Playground upgrades at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary Improved entry heating at Carl J. Lamb Elementary Sound improvements at Sanford High School Taking on additional hours of sports field maintenance Despite challenges and last-minute changes, their flexibility and hard work ensured our schools are clean, safe, and improved for the new year! Second graders at Carl J. Lamb recently completed an exciting unit on fairy tales and tall tales. They explored classic stories like "The Fisherman and His Wife" and "Beauty and the Beast," learning about story elements and important life lessons. The unit also introduced American tall tales featuring characters like Paul Bunyan and John Henry. These stories helped students understand the concept of exaggeration in storytelling and gave them a glimpse into life on the American frontier. This unit has strengthened students' listening and comprehension skills, while also preparing them for more advanced literature in future grades.
