The Landscaping and Horticulture program at SRTC spent some time during the last few weeks preparing for Valentine's Day by practicing their floral arranging skills. Excellent work!
The Sanford Regional Technical Center is seeking new students for the 2022-2023 school year! All 10th grade students recently attended a presentation to introduce SRTC and invite them to apply. Applications are available from February 1st through March 4th. Our website provides information on our upcoming Open House events and the application process. Current 11th graders should look into our one-year programs: Emergency Medical Services, Firefighting and Health Occupations. The Culinary Arts program, under Chef John Couture's guidance, catered a breakfast for Administrators and Counselors from our 8 partner schools on Thursday, December 16th. This was no easy feat, taking into consideration COVID precautions and timing (Chef's students show up at the time that the event starts) so lots of prepping occurred to ensure our guests were fed well and on time. We received nothing but rave reviews from the attendees, so complete kudos goes to you, Chef, and your team of students! Students were hard at work the next day, creating gingerbread. Nice work Culinary Arts!
Students in SRTC’s Fire Science program recently toured Southern Maine Community College. SMCC provides both an Associate’s Degree and Certificate program in Fire Science, making SMCC a great option for students interested in continuing their education in the field. In the words of SRTC’s Career Planning Coordinator, Jennifer Bartlett, “The SRTC group was wonderful and the SMCC Fire Science instructor's presentation and interaction with the students was outstanding. We had a beautiful, though chilly, picnic lunch outside overlooking the water!”

SRTC sponsored our annual College and Career Fair on Tuesday, November 9th after a one year hiatus due to COVID. We are proud to say that this event can be done safely! Students at both SHS and SRTC learned about their options from 80 different colleges, employers and branches of the military who were our guests for the day. Representatives were thrilled with the organization of the facility, the structure of the day, and the students, who were praised as being well-prepared, interested, and smart. Many thanks to several SHS and SRTC individuals and groups who made everything come together, from the overall organization and prep, food, set up and clean up, signage and communications and guest services including check-in, greeting, and parking. SRTC students were involved in every aspect of this event and, as always, helped us to shine!

SRTC celebrated the day with many costumes and seasonal activities. In the Academy of Business, students participated in a little spook-a-tition working in teams on marketing a Halloween event. Students created menus, coupons, merchandise, and more relating to their chosen theme.
Digital Design students wrapped up their horror movie poster competition with some chilling scenes. Students from throughout the school had the opportunity to vote on the scariest, most creative, and the movie they most wanted to watch.
Students from the AM session of Landscaping and Horticulture are preparing to sell their next batch of apple cider, produced from apples they harvested. Our cider was pressed locally by Giles Farm.

Academy of Business students easily transitioned to remote instruction last week and presented their projects remotely. Our Academy of Business PM students were doing presentations about the Marketing Research Process. Students worked on presentations in teams of 2-3 and covered the following topics:
1. Components of the Marketing Research Process
2. Limitations of Market Research
3. Benefits of Market Research
4. Technology that Can Be Used to Conduct Market Research on Industry, Customers and Competition.
Also, National M&M Day was on October 13. The AM Academy of Business students had to design their own M&M product and present it to the class showing how they incorporated the Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Place and Promotion). Students voted for their favorite, which was designed by Elaina Eves from Noble High School.
