Three years into its journey, the Walking School Bus Program at Sanford Pride Elementary continues to make strides in building a stronger community and improving attendance.
What began as a creative and family-friendly way to ensure students arrive at school safely and on time has blossomed into an engaging morning routine for students, volunteers, and families.
Carol Lantagne, the program's coordinator, is there at 7:30 a.m. every morning, always with at least one volunteer. The volunteers meet in the CVS parking lot on Main Street, about a half mile from Sanford Pride Elementary. Read more about it here! https://www.sanford.org/article/1828211

Good Morning SPE families,
This is a reminder that today is an early release day, dismissal at 2pm.

Get ready for a night of fun, music, and friendly competition at the Sanford Backpack Program's "Lip Sync Showdown!" The event will take place on Saturday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Sanford Performing Arts Center.
This event is presented by the Sanford Backpack Program, with all proceeds directly supporting the program’s mission to provide food for local students in need.
Some of the area’s most recognizable faces will hit the stage to battle it out for lip-sync supremacy, as voted by the audience in attendance.

After each round, the power is in the audience's hands to vote for the winning team, making this a night of friendly competition you won't want to miss.
All proceeds from the event will support the Sanford Backpack Program in their mission to ensure that children in our community go home with a backpack full of nutritious, easy-to-prepare food every weekend. Hello SPE Families,
Bus #15 is running about 20 minutes behind this afternoon.

Grade 2 News- October 7, 2024
The students in second grade have been busy learning all the routines of their new classrooms and having fun making new friends and connections!
They’ve been working hard reviewing lots of grade 1 concepts and skills in the new literacy program each day. The program is split into two major areas of focus- Skills and Knowledge. In skills, we are learning about grammar and punctuation while writing, phonics skills and “tricky words.” In addition, we’ve begun reading The Cat Bandit- the story tells of a clever cat and the ways he gets food. This week we began working with spelling words as well. The spelling words are based on previous lessons. In Knowledge, our first unit was all about Fairy Tales. We read Beauty and the Beast and The Magic Fish among others. The children learned about the characteristics of fairy tales and did lots of fun activities that focused on comparing and contrasting stories and studying new vocabulary as well. We are now learning about Tall Tales. Our next unit will be about Early Asian Civilizations..
In math, we recently completed a unit on place value. The children learned about how the digits in the 3 digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens and ones. They read and wrote numbers in standard, word and expanded form. They also learned how to decompose 3 digit numbers in various ways. Our next unit of study will be working with patterns in numbers, odds and evens and patterns in solving addition and subtraction.
