Third graders at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary delighted their family and friends with their learning showcase for the year this afternoon!
Students focused on information writing skills to prepare for the showcase and worked hard to organize their various topics into chapters.
Students also created introductions and conclusions, expanded their fact-telling by trying different writing strategies, and edited, revised, and published their writing into a book.
Friends and families gathered in the cafeteria to witness the results of their children's dedication and creativity. Each student proudly displayed their book, a compilation of knowledge, creativity, and newfound writing skills.
Exciting moments at Margaret Chase Smith this week! Students, parents, and teachers came together for two special showcases, highlighting the efforts of Ms. Wilson's, Ms. Cote's, and Ms. Devine's classrooms.
On Monday, Ms. Wilson and Ms. Cote hosted the K for ME Unit 2 showcase, a program supporting kindergarten students' growth in literacy, science, social studies, and more.
Students delved into caring for living things and exploring animals like fish, frogs, owls, and wolves through research and collaboration. Parents were treated to a showcase of the students' creations.
Wednesday brought another showcase, this time featuring Ms. Devine's Pre-K students and their progress in Unit 2 for Pre-K for ME. This program focuses on building social-emotional, language, literacy, math, and vocabulary skills. Unit 2 explored the concepts of friendship, teaching students the importance of being themselves, supporting friends, and resolving conflicts.
Parents witnessed their little ones' growth through read-alouds, rhyming words, and the development of beginning writing skills.
Our PREK pups had the opportunity to share their center activities today during their family showcase in Unit 3.

At Margaret Chase Smith, Ranger Laura came to talk to Ms. Brown’s class on Google Meets last week about the weather and climate in Acadia National Park. She also discussed other national parks around the United States. Students learned about the water cycle, different clouds, and tools to measure various kinds of weather!
