"Snow Excited" to share some of our participants in our January Family Challenge. Students were given a menu board of options to try new activities both indoors and outdoors. Throughout the month, students shared stories of their accomplishments and sent in pictures that are on display in our main hallway. Fan favorites were reading to a pet, creating snowflakes and playing a board game with a family member.

Sharing Our Word Mrs. Parnham, a 3rd grade teacher, shared that her class started connecting to their Class Promethean board so students could share his/her iPad screen so a student can show his/her work and explain his/her thinking to the class. In math today, two students shared their strategies for using basic helper facts (x2, x5, x10) to help with unknown facts by adding a group to the class's pictures or arrays.

SNOW CHALLENGE
January 18, 2021 Hello Everyone, I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. Mr. Nelson’s letter to us was a reminder that we all can play a role in carrying on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream. Just a reminder that students are learning remotely this week. Let’s all hope that the spread of this virus slows down. As Mr. Nelson has reported, it is important that we follow CDC guidelines of wearing a mask that covers both the nose and mouth; wash our hands or use hand sanitizer; and social distance. Please notify our school nurse, Mrs. Boone, if anyone in your home tests positive or has been exposed to anyone who has tested positive. Special Event for Parents: DR. MARIE GUAY, Psychiatrist to present on ADD/ADHD & Anxiety on Children and Adults. Thursday, January 21st at 6:00pm. You can join us from the comfort of your home on Zoom. Please email Donna Cormier dcormier@sanford.org for information on the zoom link. Reminder: SNOW MUCH FUN IN JANUARY: Students have been asked to participate in our “SNOW MUCH FUN IN JANUARY” challenge. Students have received a menu board where they simply check off the box and add the date to each completed activity. Each completed box is worth 1 point, a completed row or column earns an additional 2 points. Once you have completed 5 activities return your menu board to the front office and add your name to our school Winter Wonderland display. If you would like to continue just ask for another board to complete more activities. Looking to earn bonus points? Make sure you send us a pic of you completing an activity to thallissey@sanford.org. Each photo is worth an additional point. This activity runs until January 26th. Hat Day: Remember to wear your favorite hat to school on Thursday January 28th and Friday January 29th during our “Hats off to Friendship” spirit days. The Weeks Ahead – Here are some dates and events I want to give you a heads-up about so that you can plan for them. January 18th – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No School January 21st - ADHD/Anxiety evening zoom event for parents/guardians at 6 pm. January 28th and 29th – Hat Day Have a great week! ~ Chuck Potter
