The Sanford School Department wishes the community a happy Memorial Day. Today is a day to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and to also support the family members of those we have lost. Today and every day, we’re inspired by all who have served this country.

Carl J. Lamb had a nice turnout at their book fair last week!

Good morning, Here is this week's family newsletter. https://5il.co/1usrm The last day of Pre-K and Kindergarten is Friday, June 9th. The last day of school for grades 1-4 is Tuesday, June 13th. The last day of school dates are the same for all our elementary schools in Sanford. School attendance is still very important because we're in the midst of NWEA testing (reading and math), Benchmark assessments (reading levels), Early Bird Screening (dyslexia screening), and have many fun events planned such as field trips, Chewonki, a talent show, concerts, art shows, ice cream social, field day, BBQ, and more. Enjoy your Sunday and have a great week ahead!

A reminder that Carl J. Lamb's Arts Night continues today at 4:15 p.m. with the 2nd grade spring concert!

Carl J. Lamb Schools art and music nights start this week. Read a preview of it here!

Miss Lachance’s class at Carl J. Lamb earned a slime party for working together. Way to go!

We'd like to wish a very Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in the CJL community from all of our staff and students! Here's this week's newsletter with some important video links that offer traffic flow instructions for our VPA nights (click the small orange buttons on the third page to view). Because of the way we've staggered the events, it's important that you watch each video for each grade that you have a student in. Thank you! Please also enjoy some great photos of this week's highlights and take note of important and fast approaching dates. Have a great week! https://5il.co/1ubfe

Carl J. Lamb had their career fair today! Representatives from local communities explained their positions and how students can find their interests in school to match their careers. Some of the representatives included Sanford Assistant Fire Chief Rick Smith and School Resource Officer Joe Jourdain. SHS alumn Samantha Brink is now the Vice President of Extended Learning Opportunities for the Maine Department of Education, and she helped set up the career fair.

Sanford Schools grade 4 students have been learning how to turn their strengths and interests into careers.
Last month, The Finance Authority of Maine visited all grade 4 classrooms and completed an activity in which students identified what they liked to do, what they were good at, and what potential careers in the future they could do.
Building upon that activity, all grade 4 students visited either the Southern Maine Aviation or Moody's Collision and learned about careers matching their interests.
Students learned what careers required a high school diploma, internship, on-the-job training, or a college degree. Many thanks to FAME, Southern Maine Aviation, Moody's Collision, Sanford Elementary School Counselors, and administrators for making this possible.

Every week, Carl J. Lamb has High Five Ticket Winners that make them so proud, but they also have green slip winners! Green slips are positive office referrals printed on a green certificate. Their recipients earn a positive phone call home from admin.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We want to thank all of our teachers across the district. You are all so valuable and make a huge difference! Be sure to check our social media accounts throughout the week as we highlight teachers at all of our schools. #TeacherAppreciationWeek
