MCS Pride PTA worked with Sanford Pride Elementary School Principal Susan Inman to set up a small ceremony to present new flags to the school Thursday morning.

Earlier this summer, PTA member Ed Cormier  noticed the old flag was ready to be replaced, so he reached out to Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio to see if she could help with the project. They came up with the idea to fly them over the State Capitol in memory of John Tuttle Jr. Tuttle had served Sanford for over thirty years in both local and state level elected positions.

Mayor Mastraccio presented the flags to the school Thursday morning and explained the importance of the flag. They took a moment of silence in memory of the late Senator. Music teacher Mrs. Mannino assembled the 4th grade chorus to sing the National Anthem.

Mrs. Mannino's chorus is an elective for 4th grade students. Their first rehearsal was just two weeks, and Thursday was their first-ever performance as a group! They started practicing the Star Spangled Banner right when the flag ceremony plans had been set.

Mrs. Mannino says the performance from chorus Thursday morning spoke to her students' character, work ethic, and musicianship.

Cormier and School Custodian Jason Dudley raised the flag.
