Sanford High School Theater Company Presents Disney’s Newsies

Sanford, Maine — The Sanford High School Theater Company is proud to present Disney’s Newsies, a high-energy musical inspired by the true story of the 1899 New York City newsboys strike. Packed with explosive choreography, memorable songs, and a powerful message about standing up for what’s right, Newsies promises to be one of the most exciting productions of the season at Sanford Performing Arts Center.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York, Newsies follows Jack Kelly and a group of young newspaper sellers who rally against unfair working conditions, ultimately forming a movement that captures the attention of the entire city. With a driving score that includes favorites like “Seize the Day,” “Santa Fe,” and “King of New York,” the show celebrates resilience, friendship, and the strength of collective action.

“Newsies is big, bold, and incredibly demanding, and our students are meeting that moment,” said Brett Williams, director of the production. “The energy, the movement, and the storytelling all come together in a way that’s powerful and inspiring.”

The cast features a talented group of Sanford High School students bringing these iconic characters to life, supported by a dedicated student crew working behind the scenes on set, lighting, sound, and costumes.

Public Performances are scheduled for:

  • Friday, March 27 at 7:00 PM

  • Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM

  • Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 PM

Online ticketing is available 24/7 at SanfordPAC.org. The SPAC ticket office is open for in-person sales Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am-noon, and one hour before every performance.

“We’re proud to provide our students with the opportunity to take on a show of this scale,” Williams added. “Newsies is about young people finding their voice, and that couldn’t be more fitting for a high school production.”
