Students across all grade levels at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary are making wonderful music this season!
The youngest learners in PreK are getting creative with songs like "Aiken Drum," where they help create a character who lives on the moon. Kindergarten and first-grade students are mastering three movement dances that teach them about musical patterns, and many are confidently volunteering to perform mini solos in class.
Second graders are building foundational music skills through rhythm games and catchy learning songs like "Miss White" and "See a Pin" that teach music notation. Third-grade musicians are advancing from glockenspiels to larger xylophones and metallophones as they complete their current unit. Fourth graders are wrapping up their ukulele unit, having learned multiple strumming patterns and two chords.
Beyond the classroom, music clubs are flourishing. The fourth-grade chorus delivered a fantastic performance at the recent Veteran's Breakfast and is now preparing warm-ups for Spring Sing repertoire. Second-grade drumming club is meeting for its third session, and the Fall ukulele club will showcase what they've learned at today's school-wide assembly.
It's wonderful to see so many students discovering the joy of music-making at MCS!
