Talent Takes Center Stage at SHS Spring Concert

Sanford High School students showcased their musical talents at the annual Spring Concert held on May 6, 2025, at the Sanford Performing Arts Center. The event featured performances by multiple student ensembles under the direction of Ryan Geary, Director of Choirs, and Hailey Francoeur, Director of Bands.

During the concert, Geary took a moment to recognize several outstanding vocal students for their achievements. Five students made the District One Honor Festival Choirs this year, including Annika Hamblin, Meredith Schoenherr, Ava Fagan, Hope Abbott-Eaton, and Calleigh Bill. Mr. Geary also proudly announced that several students will be participating in the All-State festival in Orono next week, including Meredith Schoenherr (Treble Choir), Lillian Poto (All-State Mixed Choir), and Hope Abbott-Eaton.

"I am lucky to do what I do," shared Geary as he expressed his gratitude to various supporters. He also thanked the SPAC staff, including Brett Williams and Jane Kirton, for their guidance and support.

The evening's program, "SHS Choral Ensembles: In Bloom," included performances by Vox Sparta, Select Treble Choir, Sanford Chamber Singers, SSA Choir, TTB Choir, and Chorale. The repertoire ranged from Billy Joel's "The Longest Time" performed by Vox Sparta to "Hope Lingers On" by the Chorale.

The instrumental portion featured the SHS Band Ensembles performing pieces including Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" by the Wind Ensemble and a world premiere of "The Great Revival" composed by student Timothy McGee, performed by the Concert Band.

"I thought it was a fantastic concert and it went really well," said Hailey Francoeur, Director of Bands. "It was a great way to wrap up the end of the year for our performances before graduation and Memorial Day. This was some really challenging literature and they handled it so well!"

In a touching moment, Geary honored the 15 graduating seniors from the choral program, highlighting their accomplishments and future plans. Among them was Hope Abbott-Eaton, a three-time District Choir and two-time All-State singer who will attend USM for vocal performance and is "remembered for her musicality, skill, and most importantly, her leadership."
