Students from Sanford High School's JMG program recently got an inside look at hospitality career paths during an educational field trip to the Nonantum Hotel in Kennebunkport, sponsored by the Maine Tourism Association.
The hands-on experience allowed students to tour every department and meet directly with managers from various hotel operations, including front desk services, housekeeping, childcare programs, culinary arts, and grounds maintenance. This comprehensive tour highlighted the diverse career opportunities available within Maine's thriving hospitality industry.
Beyond career insights, students learned about the Nonantum's community initiatives supporting sustainability, food security, and recovery programs. The visit concluded with an engaging bed-making competition followed by lunch prepared by the hotel's kitchen staff.
This immersive experience demonstrated to students that rewarding hospitality careers are available right in their local community. Through partnerships between education and industry leaders like the Nonantum Hotel, Maine students can better understand and prepare for careers in this growing field.
