Sanford Middle School Students Join Statewide Leadership Summit in Augusta

Nearly twenty Sanford Middle School students recently participated in the Maine Youth Action Network’s Leadership Summit in Augusta, demonstrating their commitment to community engagement and leadership development.

The two-day summit, held at locations including Thomas College, brought together young leaders from across the state to discuss pressing social issues and connect with nonprofit organizations.

Sanford students actively participated in workshops and networking opportunities designed to employ youth voices.

“Our students did an exceptional job representing both JMG and Sanford Middle School,”said JMG Specialist Tara Houle. “Their ability to connect with other students and nonprofit organizations was remarkable.”

A highlight of the event included a visit to the State House, where students met with Representative Anne-Marie Mastraccio’s aide for an informative tour of the building. The experience provided students with firsthand exposure to state government operations and civic engagement opportunities.

Throughout the summit, students participated in collaborative sessions, practiced their multimedia skills with professional equipment, and engaged with peers from diverse backgrounds across Maine.

The event successfully combined leadership development with practical networking opportunities, empowering students to bring valuable resources and initiatives back to their school community.
