Sanford High School's Marching Band put on a gold medal-winning performance at the Maine Band Directors Association (MBDA) state finals at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, October 26th.
This year's "Beacon" production earned five-star ratings across all categories, including Music, General Effect, Color Guard, Percussion, Visual, and Drum Major.
The production drew inspiration from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poems "The Lighthouse" and "The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls." The show celebrated the majesty of Maine's coastal lighthouses, bringing their strength and beauty to life through music and movement.
"These guys continued to pursue excellence and reached new heights this year," said SHS Music Director Hailey Francoeur. "The whole staff is very proud of them, and we're excited to see what next year brings as we hope to do more USBands shows."
The band's excellence extends beyond state borders, having recently claimed first place at the USBands UMass Amherst Invitational. At this national competition, they swept the awards, winning best music, percussion, color guard, effect, and visual performance.
