Sanford's Collaborative Approach to Early Childhood Education

The teachers and staff working with young children in Sanford's preschools, public pre-k, kindergarten programs, and other early childhood educators in the community got together for a special training session at Sanford Pride on a recent Wednesday during our Early Release Day.

The session's purpose was to learn more about an important program called the First 10 Grant. This grant helps the school district, local elementary schools, and early childhood programs work together to improve the quality of education and care for young children and their families.

The goals for this school year include:

1. Helping families become more involved and connected with their child's school through special play and learn sessions and "The Basics" parenting education program.

2. Making the transition from preschool to kindergarten go more smoothly so that students can be successful and attend school regularly. This includes having a special kindergarten registration event and ensuring the curriculum and teaching in preschool and kindergarten are well-connected.

3. Providing high-quality books for young children, improving early intervention services, and ensuring that all the teachers and caregivers for preschool and kindergarten students work together and learn from each other.

The school district is excited to keep having these important discussions and collaborations with the schools, early childhood programs, and the community to support the success of young learners in Sanford.

This work is only possible with the efforts of Sanford Pride Elementary First 10 Grant Outreach Coordinator Shana Palmer.
