Sanford Middle School's 8th grade band received a Superior Rating at the Maine Band Directors Association Concert Band Festival on Wednesday, March 27th.
Schools are all rated on the same score sheet, with the highest rating being Superior. Sanford's 8th grade band received a 5 out of 5 in sight reading and a Superior rating overall. A Superior rating is very difficult to get at the middle school level.
Sanford High School's Honors Wind Ensemble, which has 14 members, also traveled to the festival and walked away with an Excellence rating.
The high school's band played three pieces: Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copeland, The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, and Cool from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
It was a great experience for both bands. The high school band also supported the middle school during their performance.
