Sanford High School students were treated to a special performance of Step Afrika! on Monday morning.

Step Afrika!  is a global show that introduces audiences to traditional African step and contemporary rhythmic dance popularized by historically African-American fraternities and sororities.

The performers captured the students' attention with their synchronized movements and footwork.

One highlight of the performance was the step dance challenge that unfolded. Members of Step Afrika engaged in a friendly competition, challenging each other to step routines. Step Afrika encouraged the students to cheer for their favorite performers.

The interactive nature of the performance allowed the students to connect with the art of stepping on a more personal level.

The students learned about the roots of this art form and its evolution into a powerful and expressive dance style that resonates with people of all backgrounds.

"By every measure, the 'Step Afrika!' company exceeded expectations and delivered an unforgettable experience," Sanford Performing Arts Center Director Brett Williams said. "I've never seen students more thoroughly engaged with a performance in the PAC than they were with this show! It was a spectacular way to kick off Black History Month in our school."
