Sanford High School hosted its annual Spartan Wrestling Tournament on Friday, January 5th, and Saturday, January 6th. Each year, the tournament draws in some of New England's toughest teams, and 2024 was no exception.

Sanford High School hosted its annual Spartan Wrestling Tournament on Friday, January 5th, and Saturday, January 6th. Each year, the tournament draws in some of New England's toughest teams, and 2024 was no exception. 

Sanford had a great showing, finishing fourth out of 23 teams. Senior standout Canton Hill won the 215-pound weight class. 

Sanford had several wrestlers finish high in their weight classes, including Christopher Chaplick, 2nd (113 pounds); James Chaplick, 3rd (138 pounds); Ricky Callis, 3rd (165 pounds); and Richie Simpson, 5th (175 pounds). 

Additionally, James Chaplick won the Ken Hover Most Outstanding Sanford Wrestler Award twice in the same tournament for beating his opponent from Bonny Eagle.
