Affordable Homeownership Opportunity in Sanford

The application period is now open for the Habitat for Humanity Affordable Homeownership Program in York County.

Habitat York County is building the first of five homes in Sanford.

Are you in need of better housing? Potential homebuyers might be dealing with poorly maintained, unhealthy, or overcrowded housing, unaffordable rent, inaccessible housing, or have other shelter needs.

Habitat homebuyers put in 200-400 hours of "sweat equity," helping to build their own home and volunteering at the Kennebunk ReStore.

Here's how you can qualify:

Habitat homeowners must be active participants in building a better home and future for themselves and their families.

  •  Prospective Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need for safe, affordable housing.
  •  Habitat homeowners must partner with Habitat York County throughout the process. This partnership includes performing "sweat equity" or helping to build their own home and the homes of others in our homeownership program. Sweat equity also includes taking homeownership classes and performing volunteer work.
  •  Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage.

To apply, email program@habitatyorkcounty.org. The application period ends on March 22nd.
