In celebration of National School Resource Officer Day today, we want to share some reasons Officer Jourdain is so much a part of Sanford Middle School. He helps keep the school safe and secure, but he is also a mentor, guide, and counselor to our students.

His rapport with the students is evident—in the halls, the cafeteria, the offices, in the boys’ groups, and outside at arrival and dismissal times. He can be seen joking with the students, lending a hand, or providing advice as needed. He sets a great example of how law enforcement and the community can create great collaboration.

This is Officer Jourdain’s third year at SMS, but he has other responsibilities outside of school: he is on the SWAT team, trains other officers in the police department, and is in the Honor Guard. In fact, in this last capacity, he has served at retirements, funerals, and even twice at Gillette Stadium at Patriots’ games. His professional life is full.

His “free time,” though, is even more rewarding. He has a wonderful wife (who not only works outside the home, but is a very active member of the PTA) and three sons.

They enjoy spending time together and doing various outdoor activities, like skiing, fishing, and hiking. They can also be found renovating a home a few hours north of Sanford or working on projects around their house here. And best of all, Officer Jourdain is a great cook—the inviting aromas of his leftovers fill the main office almost daily.
