After some strong competition yesterday, our FFA contestants received their results this morning and.....we rocked it!!
Avery Connatser - Bronze individual in floriculture
Esther Bronwyn- Silver individual in floriculture
Rowan Rhodes- Silver individual in floriculture
Amelia Halverson- Gold individual in floriculture
Team silver in floriculture.
This is outstanding for a little school in Maine competing against some national powerhouses!
Just an FYI: People hear floriculture and think it’s just floral arranging. But floriculture is actually the science of growing and marketing ornamental and flowering plants.
Placing in floriculture requires broad and deep horticulture knowledge. Students had to identify plants from a list of over 300 Latin names, identify plant pests and disease in real time, calculate fertilizer and pesticide ratios, correctly use and identify greenhouse equipment, create a marketing display from scratch as a team, do a live sales pitch to a judge, perform plant propagation, and complete a general knowledge exam in ADDITION to making “wearable” prom-style flowers and funeral flower arrangements for the judge. #MaineCTE
