Announcement

Dear Sanford High School (SHS) and Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) Staff and Families:

This morning the Sanford Police Department dispatch received a phone call indicating that there was a threat in a student backpack in “room 50 English class” at Sanford High School. The same message was received by several other schools locally and in Canada. This appeared to be a robo call focused on York County.  Sanford High School and Sanford Regional Technical Center did not receive any direct threat or notification. We also do not have a room 50 at SHS/SRTC.

Out of an abundance of caution, SHS/SRTC conducted a fire drill to allow administration to check rooms and make sure nothing suspicious was present and students and staff could safely return to the school.  Conducting the fire drill allowed us to determine that the threat was indeed not credible.

I want to thank students and staff for their patience with the unplanned fire drill that took longer than usual.  I also want to commend the SHS/SRTC administration for their quick and careful response to this situation.  Student and staff safety is always our top priority.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools.

 Sincerely,

Matt Nelson

Superintendent of Schools
