Academy of Business Students Shine at Junior Achievement Titan Challenge

Sanford Regional Technical Center’s Academy of Business had their strongest showing yet at this year's Junior Achievement Titan Challenge on April 3rd, with 28 students forming ten teams to represent SRTC in the annual competition.

Morning weather issues affected the northern part of the state, allowing only half of the participating schools to compete at their regional locations. The state winners will be announced after the remaining regions complete their competitions next week, when all scores will be tallied.

In exciting news from our region, Team SRTC10—made up of seniors Connor Rice, Ethan Wilfong, and Jacob Cardoza—swept all three rounds of the regional competition and earned the highest point total of the day.

Teams have been preparing since early February with guidance from JA mentor Paul Bourret, who has been an invaluable resource to the Academy of Business program and its students for over a decade.

The JA Titan Challenge immerses students in the world of business through a simulation where teams act as CEOs of virtual cell phone companies. This hands-on experience teaches them how businesses evaluate options, analyze results, and develop strategies for production, marketing, research and development, and corporate social responsibility.

All Academy teams performed admirably in the competition, learning the valuable real-world lesson that outcomes aren't always predictable and some factors remain beyond our control.

Congratulations to all of the Academy of Business participants on their excellent performance! The students are looking forward to receiving the final results and placements after next week's competition concludes.
