Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Representatives from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard visited Sanford Regional Technical Center to engage with students about career opportunities in construction trades.

The visit comprised both morning and afternoon sessions. During their presentation, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard highlighted the diverse career paths available in construction trades.

They stressed the importance of exploring and discovering the right career fit. Students were encouraged to actively participate in hiring fairs and communicate openly with their program instructors to explore various trades and industries effectively.

They also discussed the benefits of working at a shipyard, including the ability to easily switch between different jobs and apprenticeships without having to leave the shipyard.

They also talked about the different types of work shifts, pay rates, and a scholarship program for students, allowing them to work for the shipyard during summer breaks and commit to working for the shipyard after graduation.

The morning session focused on introducing career options in construction trades to junior SRTC students. During the afternoon session, seniors were provided with more detailed information about the apprenticeship process and the general hiring process at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
