Enhancing Education through Data Assessing student learning is a fundamental aspect of education that plays a crucial role in improving instruction and outcomes for all students. Through the collection of valuable data, assessments provide educators with insights that guide their teaching practices and help foster student growth.

These assessments come in various forms, each serving a distinct purpose and offering unique benefits.

The Maine Department of Education has taken a proactive approach by adopting the NWEA assessment as the state assessment for students in grades 3-8 and 10.

The Sanford School Department has also implemented NWEA to assess students in grades K-2 and 9, ensuring a long-term collection of data that informs curriculum decisions.

The fall testing window for NWEA assessments is scheduled from October 2 to 27. While each school has created its own testing schedule, the district has established this timeframe to provide plenty of opportunity for assessment administration.

The results of these assessments will be shared at a school committee meeting in November, allowing stakeholders to gain insights into student performance and inform future educational strategies. If you have any questions or concerns about the assessments or the testing process, we encourage you to contact your child's teacher or the curriculum office at 207-324-2810.

Open communication between parents, teachers, and administrators is important in creating a collaborative environment that supports student success. Assessing student learning is an ongoing journey requiring commitment and collaboration from all stakeholders. The Sanford School Department is dedicated to providing educators with the tools they need to enhance instruction and promote student growth.
