Sanford Regional Technical Center hosted its four-day Summer Camp for middle school students entering grades 6-8 from all of its sending schools last week.

With morning and afternoon sessions, the camp offered students the chance to explore three programs: health occupation, federal aviation administration, and video production.

SRTC instructors, assisted by SRTC students, delivered four days of hands-on projects. Throughout the camp, students delved into various hands-on activities, gaining valuable insights and skills in their chosen fields. In the health occupations program, students were introduced to a wide array of careers in the medical field.

Through interactive sessions, they gained firsthand knowledge and experience in basic nursing skills while exploring the diverse opportunities available in the healthcare industry. The federal aviation administration program exposed students to the world of aviation. Students were introduced to drones and gliders.

They also learned about the principles of flight. The hands-on experience allowed them to engage with emerging technologies and explore the exciting possibilities of a career in aviation.

The video production program allowed students to immerse themselves in the creative realm of TV and film production. They learned about different roles within the industry, including directing, editing, and cinemaphotography.

Through practical exercises, students honed their skills and created unique video projects. On the final day of camp, the students showcased their projects to their parents, providing a glimpse into their newfound expertise.

Parents came to SRTC on the final day of camp to celebrate their children’s achievements. Parents witnessed a pinning ceremony in the health occupations program, where students were acknowledged for their commitment and hard work throughout the week. In federal aviation, students demonstrated their skills by piloting drones.

The SRTC Summer Camp provided middle schoolers with a great opportunity to explore their interested and gain knowledge in these programs.
