How long have you been teaching at Sanford Middle School?
I'm in my 4th year of teaching at SMS, and I taught at Willard School for 12 years prior to 5th grade moving to the Middle School.
What is your favorite part about working at Sanford Middle School?
I love working at the middle school for so many reasons - it's hard to narrow it down! I think it's a combination of the phenomenal support from our administrators and the opportunity to form a positive middle school experience for the incoming 5th graders.
If you could share one piece of advice with students, what would it be?
One of my favorite books to read with my students carries the message of not "wishing away your time," and it always generates great discussions. I think it's challenging for all of us, but especially important for middle school students, to try to enjoy the present moment as much as possible -- even when the moment seems boring and ordinary.
What made you want to become an educator?
I'm from Sanford, and I loved being a part of this community as a student. Specifically, my 8th-grade science teacher Ms. Sargent was THE BEST and was the main inspiration for the kind of teacher I wanted to become.
What are your interests and hobbies?
I've always loved playing sports. Now my interests are more in coaching my own kids and watching other people play. I also love reading, more as an adult than I ever did as a student!
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
So many, but I could rewatch any Captain America movie anytime!
