In Mystery Science, students in Ms. Greene's, Ms. Joy's and Mrs. David's classes met the science standard "I can find and use information about how communities protect the Earth's resources and environment." Students acted as engineers (Environmental, Structural, Levee, and Seawall) to determine best use of resources to protect a fictional beach town from both storm surge and river flooding from a hurricane. If you remember Hurricane Katrina in 2005, New Orleans was affected by storm surges and flooding, in part caused by levees breaching (breaking through). Each table group was able to successfully put together a plan within a budget for Beachtown's Town Council!
