If you are a parent of child in middle school or high school you may be interested in this community event that is sponsored by Strategies for a Stronger Sanford. Please read the message below to learn more about this presentation.
Good afternoon,
We will be hosting an interactive, dynamic presentation for parents of youth in grades 5-12 on Wednesday, December 11th from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Sanford Performing Arts Center, located within Sanford High School. During this event, Melissa Fernald-- a duly licensed social worker and master licensed drug and alcohol counselor-- invites adults to learn about warning signs that a juvenile may be experiencing mental health, social, or emotional issues. Fernald stages a mock teenage bedroom to include various warning signs of mental illness, bullying, and other concerns. This interactive event is intended to increase community awareness, promote early detection of mental illness, provide tools and resources, and demonstrate communication techniques for engaging effectively with adolescents.
