Staff Meal Deliveries at Sanford Middle School

Sanford Middle School has found a creative way to encourage community spirit while teaching cooking to Life Skill Students: staff meal deliveries. Each Friday, the staff is informed about the upcoming week’s menu.

The initiative is unique because students and staff collaborate to plan these meals. Together, they brainstorm ideas, choose recipes, and compile lists of necessary ingredients. Some of these supplies are incorporated from the Sanford Backpack Program.

Amy Greene Lamb, a special education teacher at SMS, and ed tech Roxanne Shepherd have pivotal roles in starting the staff meal deliveries. The goal of the program is to help teach students valuable life skills.

Greenelamb said the meal deliveries have positively impacted the staff and students. Students are eager to move around the building, offering meals while learning manners and social skills.

Sanford Middle School’s cooking team has also received praise from staff for their kindness in making the meals. The staff meal deliveries will continue throughout the school year and begin again in the fall.
