*It's your civil rights team here to tell you about why we have a three day weekend! Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. day. This day was made a holiday to remember and honor the great Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther King Jr, and to encourage people to engage in acts of public service in their communities. Martin Luther King Jr. is considered one of history’s greatest activists, most famous today for his "I Have a Dream" speech. He was assassinated in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement on April 4th, 1968. His leadership helped end segregation during the civil rights movement. Today, the holiday serves multiple purposes: It honors the total legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.; focuses on the issue of civil rights; highlights the use of nonviolence to promote change; and calls people into public service. Please consider doing something for your community in remembrance of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
