COVID-19 Update

Dear Sanford Families,

As you may already be aware, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved by the FDA for use in children 5-11 years of age. We expect final Emergency Use Authorization approval by the Centers for Disease Control sometime this week and preparations are currently underway with Southern Maine Health Care to host a voluntary , school-based vaccination clinic for Sanford's youth. Additional information regarding our school-based clinics will be provided during the week of November 8, 2021 once the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and CDC Director Rochelle Walensky sign-off on the vaccine.

In anticipation of final approval from the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Mike Albaum, the Chief Medical Officer at SMHC and a pediatrician, will be hosting an informational webinar Thursday, November 4 at 5:30pm via Zoom for interested parents and families. At the webinar, Dr. Albaum, will present facts about COVID vaccinations for children 5-11 years of age and encourage questions from participants. This webinar is free and open to all interested Sanford families.
