Administrators at Sanford Pride Elementary attended a Recognition Celebration for their Foster Grandparents.

Sanford Pride Elementary was the host of four Foster Grandparents during the 2022-2023 school year. The theme of this year’s recognition banquet was “Be the Sunshine,” which is what the Foster Grandparents bring to the community. They were a bright spot for many students this year.

Foster Grandparents volunteer between 10-40 hours a week, helping children achieve academic success in K-12 classrooms. They read with children, support their academic learning and social development, and help teachers by giving each child the time and attention they need.

The Foster Grandparent program is a critical asset to the Sanford Pride Community. Sanford Pride Elementary is grateful for the valuable connections they make, the skills they share, and the intergenerational relationships they provide SPE’s students.

Colette Petrin retired from the Foster Grandparent program mid-year and was recognized for ten years of service.

Deb Curley, Janet Bridges, and Gerri Nevison were also recognized for their service. Colette Petrin worked with Bonnie Carman in Pre-K, Deb Curley worked with Michelle Grave in 1st Grade, Janet Bridges worked with Meg Mercier and Laurie Flannery in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and Gerri Nevison worked with Tricia Boivin in 3rd grade.

Here are some quotes from Sanford Pride students about their Foster Grandparents:
