This year our kindergarten teachers are piloting a phonics program by Lucy Calkin. This program fits in well with her reading and writing programs that we use. Part of what our students are learning to do is to quickly recognize high frequency words. The quick recognition of these high frequency words or "Snap Words" enables readers to quickly read and then focus on the meaning of the sentence or passage.
